Madara was betrayed by his own clan because they thought he was being selfish. He left and came back to attack Konoha using the kyuubi.
he failed and went to Hidden Mist village and became the Mizukage.
He instructs Pein what to do in their organization the 'Akatsuki', making him the true leader of Akatsuki.
